At HUT 3, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and inspiring others to take meaningful action for the planet. We understand that cutting carbon emissions is a long-term journey, but we’re dedicated to achieving our goals and even making the process rewarding along the way. Over the past few months, we’ve been working closely with Positive Planet to measure and understand our current carbon footprint.
The initial step involved a detailed analysis of our annual carbon emissions, calculated in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e). This measurement captures the emissions of all greenhouse gases identified by the UNFCC Kyoto Protocol, considering each one’s global warming potential. By following standards outlined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the UK Government, this analysis goes beyond compliance and reflects our commitment to building a sustainable future.
Using data we provided, Positive Planet has given us a comprehensive view of our carbon emissions, broken down into three key categories:
- Scope 1, Direct Emissions: This includes emissions from our vehicles, buildings, and on-site facilities.
- Scope 2, Indirect Emissions: This category covers emissions from electricity and other energy we purchase for business operations.
- Scope 3, Upstream & Downstream Emissions: This includes emissions from activities such as employee commuting, supplier transport, and customer deliveries, as well as emissions from purchased goods and services.
Our progress has earned us a Bronze rating from Positive Planet, reflecting the positive impact of our initiatives.
With this detailed understanding of our carbon footprint, we’re now moving forward with our next steps:
- Develop a Carbon Reduction Plan
Positive Planet has identified core areas where our emissions are highest, enabling us to take targeted actions. With support from their carbon reduction team, we’re working to develop a clear plan to reduce emissions and make tangible progress toward Net Zero. - Communicate Our Impact
Taking action to reduce our emissions is vital, and sharing our efforts with our stakeholders amplifies this impact. By openly communicating our progress, we hope to inspire others to take similar steps and join us in creating a positive ripple effect. - Engage Our Team
Success in carbon reduction requires active participation from everyone within HUT 3. Building internal awareness and commitment strengthens our efforts and extends our impact to those we interact with—suppliers, customers, and the community.
